Calliope Nerve is a web log (our primary venture), informal zine, and publishing company focusing on high quality poetry, art, photography, comics, animation, vispo, and short-lit with a bent for dark, sur-real, and/or experimental pieces.
Our inspirations include Piranha Press, Charles Bukowski, Samuel R. Delaney, E.E. Cummings, Quentin Tarantino, Ellen Datlow, Rachael Pollack, Grant Morrison, Matthew Sturges, Loompanics Unlimited, Bill Willingham, Stan Rice, Iain M. Banks, Frank O'Hara, Warren Ellis, Pablo Picasso, Matt Fraction, Neil Gaiman, Tori Amos, Simon Bisley, Alan Moore, Vertigo Comics, Peter Milligan, and The Melvins.
All submissions must be sans the snobbery and elitism of other publications. Art must be shared with the world, it belongs to all, this is mantra. Calliope Nerve has published everyone from Pushcart Award Winners to retired pest exterminators to seventeen year old cheerleaders. Calliope does not care whether the world gets us or not, we are artists.
Most importantly, our editorial staff is looking for as much originality in content as possible.
Copyrights remain with the authors and works are not exclusive as we also accept pieces that have been/or will be published elsewhere. Remember, your piece is always new to someone.
Submissions should include a short author's blurb, the title in the subject line, and be sent in email form without attachments to CalliopeNerve (AT) gmail.com. All double spacing must be removed. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged but we want separate emails for each piece. Untitled pieces should be labeled as such. If you are under eighteen, please let us know. FINALLY, IF YOU ARE SUBMITTING THE SAME PIECE TO OTHER PUBLICATIONS PLEASE ADVISE UP FRONT.
Calliope Nerve does not pay for accepted work as this is a free endeavor but you may plug any project, website, etc. you please in your author's blurb.
Thanks for inquiring on our guidelines and thanks even more for reading Calliope Nerve. Poetry is prayer. God is ink!
